What it's like
Blackcurrants are the most reliable fruit in a cold garden, and Ben Lomond is the most reliable blackcurrant — it flowers late enough to dodge a spring frost and still ripens by January. The flavour is intense and unmistakable. Pick the lot, freeze it loose on a tray, and you've got cordial and jam for the year.
Getting it established
Cut a third of the oldest wood to the ground each winter. It fruits on young stems.
Potted stock travels upright in a purpose-built carton with the rootball wrapped. Bare-root trees are lifted the week they ship, roots packed in damp shavings. Either way, get it in the ground within a week of arrival.
You've got twelve months. If it was planted the way we suggested and it hasn't come away, send us a photo and we'll replace it on the next run.
Ten or more of one line gets trade pricing without an account. Tell us the site and we'll check the spacing with you before you order.
