What it's like
Dianella tasmanica is bigger and lusher than the mainland flax-lilies, and it belongs here. Arching strappy leaves, sprays of nodding violet flowers with yellow anthers in spring, and then the real event: glossy berries in a blue you rarely see in a plant. Spreads slowly by rhizome to form a good clump.
Getting it established
Best in dappled shade with some moisture. Full sun works but the leaves go paler.
Potted stock travels upright in a purpose-built carton with the rootball wrapped. Bare-root trees are lifted the week they ship, roots packed in damp shavings. Either way, get it in the ground within a week of arrival.
You've got twelve months. If it was planted the way we suggested and it hasn't come away, send us a photo and we'll replace it on the next run.
Ten or more of one line gets trade pricing without an account. Tell us the site and we'll check the spacing with you before you order.
